For my work at ISEC Lisboa, the most critical development is the industry\u2019s departure from “cradle-to-gate” thinking toward a full “cradle-to-cradle” lifecycle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Rise of Bio-Resins and Recycled Fiber<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The 2025\u20132026 triennium has seen a surge in the validation of bio-based resins<\/strong> and recycled carbon fiber (rCF)<\/strong> for structural applications. As noted in recent 2026 market analyses, Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC) now account for nearly 80% of the market share, with a significant push toward systems that reduce reliance on petroleum-based feedstocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICAO report highlights the urgency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Achieving ICAO\u2019s global aspirational goal… will advance environmental sustainability through a basket of measures, including aircraft technology and operational improvements.”<\/em> (ICAO, 2025)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In our evaluations at ISEC, we are seeing that the most competitive Tier-1 suppliers in 2026 are those who treat recyclability<\/strong> as a primary design input, rather than a post-hoc mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategic Resilience and Supply Sovereignty<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Beyond sustainability, the 2026 outlook emphasizes industrial resilience<\/strong>. The industry is actively diversifying its chemical dependencies to avoid single-origin resin risks. The “Best Practice” in 2026 is to design airframe architectures that are compatible with multiple, sustainably sourced resin systems, ensuring that production can remain resilient in the face of global supply chain volatility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion: The New Certification Logic<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The message for the Portuguese and global aerospace clusters is clear: certification is no longer just about safety and performance; it is about documented sustainability<\/strong>. As we move toward the 42nd Session of the ICAO Assembly in late 2025, the technical foundation for a net-zero sector is being laid.
